Close To Home
You don’t have to travel to the other side of the world to have an adventure. If the last 18 months has shown us anything it is that our wonderful islands that we call home have some of the most incredible coastlines and countryside locations in the world. There is something for everyone on this wonderful land and you don’t have to travel too far from home to find it. Why not use your home as a base, take a week off and find nearby locations you can visit for day trips?
You won’t need to spend any money on accommodation and you’ll be sure of a warm shower and comfortable bed to return to at the end of the day. So often we do online searches for aspirational places far from our homes, yet there are places on our doorstep that we never visit. In addition, museums, art galleries, beaches, countryside villages and even wonderful hikes. Look closer to home for adventures on a budget.
Affordable Accommodation
One of the biggest expenses when you are on holiday or enjoying a weekend away, can be the accommodation. If you can find affordable accommodation you can make your money go further and enjoy adventures on a budget. How exactly can you find cheap places to stay though? Well, to begin with, look at budget hotels like Travelodge and Premier In. You can often get rooms from as little as £29 a night. That’s amazing for a family room! It works out at £7.50 per person! An absolute steal for a family to enjoy comfortable beds, warm baths and a large screen TV to veg out in front of at the end of a day. Different hotels on different dates cost varying amounts. If you’re simply looking at getting away from it all, search for the cheapest rooms available. You never know where it might take you!
Other affordable accommodation includes camp sites. When did you last get the tent out of the loft and give it a good airing out? There are campsites all over the country, nearby to some amazing places you can visit. You can book campsites for as little as £20 a night, some even cheaper! Check out the wonderful Lake Distract at half term or book a camp site near the Norfolk coast in the summer. Camping is a wonderful way to keep your costs down and enjoy adventures on a budget.
Use Your Contacts
Think about the people in your life, friends, family, ex colleagues who you were close with. Where do they live? What attractions and destinations worthy of visiting are nearby where they live? Would they put you up for a couple of nights in their guest room? Maybe they work away for a week every month and you could housesit? Perhaps they have a second home or holiday accommodation that they would let you stay in? Indeed, there are people living in houses near top ski locations, award winning beaches and overlooking wonderful countryside. Those friends and extended family can be a fantastic asset when you are looking to book adventures on a budget.
How about house swapping for a week so they can explore your part of the country and you can find new places to enjoy? Why pay a stranger to stay in their property via an Airbnb when you could save that money and enjoy time with loved ones. Pulling in favours is a brilliant way to visit a range of tourist attractions. The places you can visit and enjoy exploring can be easily accessed when you use those people in your contact list.
