Fruit & Veg Saver
Fruit and Veg savers may sound new, however, they have been used by organic farmers for more than 20 years.
Each disc is designed to extend the shelf-life of fruit and vegetables by up to three times. They are completely safe, non-toxic, organic and can be fully recycled.

Using them couldn’t be easier. Simply place one in each of your fridges draws, in storage containers or in the bottom of your fruit bowl.
Fruit and Veg savers work by trapping the amount of ethylene gas produced by fruit and vegetables as they ripen.
Food Huggers
Food Huggers are another fantastic product that can help you reduce food waste. These silicone covers help preserve the freshness of leftover fruits and vegetables.

All you need to do is push the remainder of the product half down into the hugger most suitable (based on size) and then save it in the fridge until you need it again. Made with 100% FDA silicone, food huggers are 100% BPA and phthalate-free.
They help reducing food waste by creating a seal to hold in the natural juices. Preventing exposure to circulating air, which can cause food to spoil or dehydrate.
Citrus Saver
Another alternative to food huggers is citrus savers. Specifically designed for citrus fruits, the design allows you to lock in the flavours, keeping the fruit fresh for longer.

The airtight dome lid unlocks with a simple twist and has the ability to fit either a whole lemon/lime or just a small edge.
Bees Wax Wrap
If you want to cut your plastic usage all together then a great alternative to food huggers is beeswax wraps. These are available in a number of different shapes, sizes and styles.

The bee’s wax wraps are also a great alternative to foil or clingfilm can easily be cleaned by hand and last between 4 – 6 months before needing to be replaced.
Spaghetti Measurer
Personally, pasta has to be the most wasted food in our house, an while it may be cheap inadequately preparing to make too much of it only leads to us creating food waste.

A spaghetti measurer allows you to adjust it in size based on the number of people you are cooking for.
Storage Containers
Speaking of leftovers, wherever we can we do try to batch cook and store meals in storage containers.
What’s great about storage containers is the variety of different shapes and sizes they come in which makes them suitable for all different food items and portion sizes.

We have recently upgraded from plastic BPA free containers to glass, and while they might be more expensive they are also much healthier due to the nonporous surface which is unable to absorb foods colourings, germs and smells.
Date Dial Storage Containers
If you want to take the organisation of your food storage to the next level, then consider purchasing Joseph Joseph date dial storage containers.

These containers come in a variety of sizes and feature a small dial that allows you to set the date in which the product needs to be consumed by.
Herb Keeper
If you use a lot of fresh herbs in the kitchen then you’ll be well aware of how quickly they seem to spoil. To prevent this I recommend the herb keeper.

Glass fresh herb containers keep your herbs fresh by counteracting their methane emissions, and of course, they are BPA free. Extending the life of your herbs by up to two weeks.
Again you can find this product in a number of different shapes and sizes. The herb keeper is to be stored in the fridge, so be sure to measure the shelves in your fridge to ensure it fits prior to purchasing.
Food Dehydrator
A food dehydrator extends the life of your food by drying it out. Allowing you to create; banana chips, beef jerky, trail mix, coconut chips etc.

According to research, dried fruits can last up to five years if stored correctly. Allowing you to reduce your fresh fruit and vegetable waste down to nothing.
Compost Bin
As hard as we try, there are some items of food that will always be inedible. However, the story for that particular item of food doesn’t have to end there.
Instead, purchase a compost bin for your garden and naturally compost the food waste.

The use of food waste compost to reduce the need for supplemental water, fertilisers and pesticides.
Not only are these items incredibly bad for the environment, but they are also a costly solution that can be avoided thanks to your compost bin.
There’s a whole different range of composting bins, the right one for you is likely to depend on the size of your garden and the amount of food waste you expect to put into the bin.
